I second your thoughts here, branding is primarily about commonsense and do good, be responsive attitude. But alas businesses sometime fail to understand that, in a hurry to look good in the accounts book . Social media is definitely a good medium but we have to be bit cautious here as it may do more harm then good to your brand. Will share some thoughts about it soon.

Facebook and Twitter are a good start to keep in touch with your customers, but creating short viral video advertisements and putting them on YouTube, Vimeo, and AdWido can easily serve to expand your base quickly.
